How to Put a Passcode on Your Smart Phone
Putting a passcode on your smart phone is a simple and easy way to maintain your privacy and the security of your information. This video shows how you can put a passcode on an iPhone and a Samgsung Galaxy.
Hi! This is Kaofeng Lee with the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Today, I’m going to show you how to put a passcode on your phone.
Putting a passcode on your phone is a very important security step to protect your privacy. A passcode will make it more difficult for someone to get into your phone.
Ok. I’m going to show you how to put a passcode on an iPhone 4S. On the iphone, go to settings. Then scroll down to “Passcode.” To set up your passcode, tap “Turn Passcode On.” A screen will come up for you to set your passcode. I’m going to use 1234. It’s going to ask you to re-enter the code again. And that’s it! Now anytime anyone accesses your phone, they must have your passcode. If you want to change your passcode, select “change your passcode.” Put in your old passcode. Then put in the new code. Do it one more time to confirm.
Another thing that the iphone allows is to let you create a more complex passcode. A complex passcode is harder to crack than a simple 4-digit one. To do this, simply uncheck Simple Passcode. Then it’s going to ask you to put in your current 4-digit passcode, and then a new one. I’m going to use PASS1234. Enter it once more for confirmation, and that’s it.
If have an iPhone 5 S or higher and you’re running IOS 8, under Settings, you want to select Touch ID & Passcode. You can use your thumbprint as a method of locking your phone. But the options for creating a passcode is still the same.
What if you have Samsung Galaxy? This is a Galaxy S4. The Galaxy has many ways for you to lock your phone, and I’m going to show you one way. Go to Settings. Tap on My Devices at the top. Then tap on Lock Screen. Tap on Screen Lock, and here are all the different ways you can lock your Galaxy. The most secure method of locking your phone is with a password. Tap on Password. It’ll ask for you to put in your password, and I’m going to use pass1234. Click Done. I’ll enter the password one more time to confirm it.
And that’s it! That’s how to lock your Galaxy with a password.
Passcodes aren’t just for smart phones. If you have a tablet or an e-reader, adding a passcode to your device will make your information much more secure.
